Mongaup River Trail in Sparrow Bush

Last year, when we went Delaware River tubing, we saw the access to Mongaup River Trail. We added it to our places to go to next time we are in the area and today was that day. It was a beautiful, sunny spring day and we wanted to take advantage of it. When we came to the parking lot it was already full but there was one more spot at the end for our car. After parking and getting out backpacks we were on our way.

The Mongaup River trail is beautiful and like the name suggests, it’s by the river. You get to see the river to your left and enjoy woods to your right. The path is serene and peaceful. While I saw no wildlife I’m sure plenty live here. Even though the parking lot was full the trail was not busy. A few of the cars belonged to the fisherman in the water. We walked the trail to the old Knight’s cemetery and turned around. We were not sure if the trail continued but according to a follower on Instagram, it does. There is also a waterfall at the end of the trail, so we will have to go back and find it.

When heading back we decided to explore more paths around the river. We crossed over a tree and before we knew it we were in the middle of the woods looking for a path to cross over. In the end, Nihad took off his boots and carried me over.

Overall, the Mongaup River Trail in Sparrow Bush is a short 1.7 mile easy walk. There are no rocks to climb or hills to leave you out of breathe. If you’re in the area and want an easy walk with the family, this is a great spot. If you love to fish, this seems to be a good spot for it as well. Across the trail parking is the D&H towpath section which you can walk as well. Hopefully, in the summer when we go back, we will explore that as well.
