Minnewaska State Park Preserve is located on the Shawangunk Mountains. This park offers a number of beautiful waterfalls, lakes, and trails. You can enjoy the 35 miles of carriage road or the 50 miles of foot trails. If you want to bike, hike, horseback ride, or swim, Minnewaska Park can help you do it all! So far, we’ve hiked here, saw all the waterfalls, and swam at the beach in the summer. If we had a horse we would probably test out their trails for that as well.
In the winter, people come here to enjoy cross country skiing and try our their snow shoes. I’ve tried skiing once and that was plenty for me. Let’s just say, the skis and I disagreed on which directions we should go in.
Park Restrictions
Before you go to Minnewaska State Park Preserve, please know that Type 2 and Type 3 Ebikes are not permitted. There are also no trash cans on the trails so please carry out your trash. Remember, your water bottle is lighter now that you drank your water. There should be no reason to toss it in the woods. Drone use and loud music is prohibited at the park.
Parking
The park is open from 9am until sundown and later, depending on the season. When the park is at full capacity they do intermittent closure. This applies to Sam’s Point as well. If you’re planning a visit to Sam’s Point in the summer and on the weekend, please call ahead and make a reservation. Minnewasanka State Park Preserve does not need weekend reservation, for now, but they do get very busy. If you come later in the day, you might be disappointed and be told to turn around.

Minnewaska State Park Photos
We love to visit Minnewaska Park and frequent it often. The Long Path trail, which we still have to finish, goes through Sam’s Point and Minnewaska State Park. We completed those sections, but still have part of SRT that we need to finish. If you love waterfalls, you won’t be disappointed by the ones this park has to offer. Below, you will find some of the photos we’ve taken at Minnewaska Park over the years. We will keep it updated and add new photos every time we go.
